Abstract

Abstract Psychotherapy training requires a complex mixture of understanding theoretical frameworks and developing applied skills. Hence, training in psychotherapy often begins with classroom exposure and then moves to supervised clinical experience. Throughout the training, students should he evaluated for their competence in several broad domains”, possessing a general knowledge-base relevant to psychotherapy, displaying adequate clinical skills that are common to all forms of psychotherapy, developing specialized skills necessary for particular therapeutic orientations, and demonstrating sound professional judgment. Also, it is important that students develop an adequate professional demeanor, a sensitivity to ethical issues, and a responsiveness to supervision. Each of these domains are discussed, with implications for post-graduate training and continuing education in psychology.
