Abstract

This study evaluates the self-reported psychotherapeutic competence of trainees in psychotherapy, as a reflection of what is being taught. Buckley's S.E.S. questionnaire was used, and factor analysis revealed five different factors reflecting five areas of psychotherapeutic skills and knowledge. At the beginning and end of an academic year, measures were taken from students at three levels of training, belonging to three distinct professional disciplines. The results suggest there is a significant increase in self-evaluation in each of the professional groups over a year's time at each of the three training levels. However, differences in the extent of change were found among the different domains of training.
