Abstract
Abstract This chapter describes the Association of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT) training infrastructure and how we embed cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) values in how we run our trainings in the United Kingdom. CAT has a well-developed, robust, and effective training infrastructure and we outline the key elements, which include different levels of training, local centres but with national standards, moderation processes, collective and collaborative design with oversight through committees, and a valuing stance. We trace the history of CAT training through to the recent competence framework, a significant and important addition that informs our curriculum and assessments. We describe how we aim to create a collaborative and collegiate way of working in ACAT training committee, offering the same scaffolding and conceptual framework to the trainers as the trainers offer to trainees. At the heart of CAT training is a relational process in which we share the values and ethos of the CAT model as well as the concepts and techniques, based on respect, warmth, clarity, and vision as well as challenge, depth, and exploration. We hold these themes as we describe the evolution of CAT training and the birth of ACAT; the philosophy of our training; the levels of ACAT accredited CAT training, and CAT training internationally. We consider what draws people to train in CAT, the core components, and the competency-based approach to our training. We describe the emphasis on personal development within CAT training, feedback and moderation processes, and how to get involved in training.
