Abstract

A survey of the training of regular and associate members of the Behavior Genetics Association was conducted by the Professional Training Committee of the association. Regular BGA members have completed, on the average, about one course in behavioral genetics, four courses in genetics, four courses in statistics, and an equal number of courses in the biological and behavioral sciences. Regular members recommended that future behavioral geneticists complete two courses in behavioral genetics, five courses in genetics, four courses in statistics, and an even split of courses from the biological and behavioral sciences. There was considerable congruence between these recommendations and courses currently being completed by BGA associate members. Over half of the regular members received a postdoctoral fellowship, and over 70% of the associate members expect to receive one.
