Abstract
Few medical schools are studying the influence of social forces on health and illness, although the medical profession now faces many social problems. A pilot program in two institutions combines internal medicine and pediatrics with social medicine to create a social and intellectual framework of medical care that will attract large numbers of physicians into the field of primary patient care.
