Abstract
Police Lieutenant Aaron Landers began running the newly created Community Outreach and Support Team at the University of Illinois, Urbana‐Champaign in December 2020 after earning a master's degree in social work with a concentration in mental health and having worked in law enforcement for nearly 25 years. COAST was created to develop stronger ties with the campus community while creating a safe environment for those in crisis by pairing officers with trained mental health professionals when responding to crisis intervention team calls.
