Abstract

Modem manufacturing sector is experiencing far reaching changes in production techniques with the emergence of new production systems and firm restructuring. The use of information technology in production has gained momentum. Consensus is therefore emerging among nations, firms and individuals that investment in human capital especially in the form of firm level training is important if firms have to compete globally. This paper examines the issue of investment in training in the labour intensive ready-made garments industry. The paper is presented in four parts. The first part presents a brief review of literature, the second a snap shot of the ready-made garments industry, while the third presents the methodology and the fourth part presents the findings.
