Abstract

ABSTRACTIn England, the demand for geography teaching expertise in schools for students aged 11-18 is expected to grow in coming years, as a consequence both of school demographics and geography's prominent standing within the curriculum. Securing a sufficient supply of geography teachers for these schools is likely to prove a significant challenge. This article examines trends in the recruitment and retention of teachers of geography and examines the intersection between teacher supply, subject specialism and approaches to Initial Teacher Education.
