Abstract
This paper focuses on the possibility of constructing an efficient digital traffic information system using the Radio Data Systems (RDS) data channel on FM radio. It refers to a system currently in use in Great Britain in which traffic information for all main national roads is updated every three minutes. It also discusses plans for a traffic information system in Germany in which the GSM mobile telephone network is used.
