Abstract

The paper presents a traffic signal optimization model based on Cell Transmission Model (CTM) under uncertain traffic demands, and then a genetic algorithm is used to optimize the traffic signal settings at an isolated intersection. The simulation results show that the proposed model can effectively reflect the impact of the traffic flow fluctuation under various traffic conditions (non-saturated, over-crowding and saturation of traffic flow), and can obtain the optimal traffic signal settings at an isolated intersection.
