Abstract

Ridesharing has become one of the most attention-grabbing trends in modern transportation recent years. This paper studies traffic efficiency improvement and comfort of passengers in ridesharing systems in smart cities. We introduce several improvement methods, and some tradeoffs involving comfort in ridematching strategies. The traffic efficiency can be improved with preserving the service level of passengers through several methods, e.g., recommending pickup or dropoff locations, transfers, and corporation with other transportation systems. The total travel distance of vehicles and the total travel time of passengers can be dropped. Therefore, passengers can enjoy their trips with sustaining a little discomfort, and the whole traffic efficiency in smart cities is improved.
