Abstract
Projection mapping is a projection technology used to turn objects such as buildings into a display surface for video projection. In combination with sensing technology and projection mapping technology, interactive performance and artistic expression are achieved. This combined technology attracting attention is called Interactive Projection Mapping. There are two types of interactive performance by using projection mapping: one is performance by operation of a small number of people, the other is performance in which a lot of people simultaneously take part. The latter requires the technology to achieve smooth computer graphics video by processing enormous number of requests from audience crowded in a narrow area. Kwansei Gakuin University which has been conducting a performance of projection mapping as one of Christmas events since 2014 organized a large-scale interactive performance of projection mapping in December 2015. We developed an interactive projection mapping system and applied to the performance. Eventually the system realized smooth interactive performance. In this paper, we present a scalable intelligent collaborative architecture for a large-scale interactive projection mapping system, and we show the implemented system and the results of the performance.
