Air pollution from traffic is contributing to the steady rise in asthma, says a report published last week by the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology. The National Asthma Campaign estimates that one in 10 children has asthma, and data from the Department of Health suggest that hospital admissions for the condition increased from 4000 in 1980 to 10 000 in 1990. * One in 10 children has asthma.
