Abstract
The article suggests a development of curriculum materials on the applications of physics to traffic accident investigations as a theme for teaching mechanics. It considers the pedagogic advantages and suitability of such a development and also briefly describes several standard investigation techniques and the physics principles involved together with some sample exercises. Background information on traffic accident investigation has been obtained from a discussion with a local expert in this field and by perusing several training manuals on traffic accident investigations (Baker 1975, Rivers 1980, Byatt and Watts 1981, Hong Kong Government Laboratory 1985). The materials developed have generally been well received in the preliminary trials in schools, although no formal evaluation has yet been conducted.
