Abstract
Therapies from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are increasingly being integrated into western treatment concepts within the framework of integrative oncology. The focus is on reducing the side effects of oncological treatment, improving the quality of life, promoting a healthy lifestyle and strengthening and harmonizing the patient. There is good evidence for a number of TCM procedures, especially for acupuncture/acupressure to relieve pain (caused by chemotherapy, aromatase inhibitors or the cancer itself). Sleep, cognition and menopausal symptoms can also be improved by acupuncture/acupressure. Ginseng for fatigue and ginger for nausea can be tried as single drugs. Evidence-based medicine has also driven research in TCM, and methodologically high-quality study results are now available that are worthy of critical consideration.
