Abstract

The use of traditional medicine is increasing in both developing and developed countries. The World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) Traditional Medicine Programme seeks to facilitate the integration of traditional medicine into national health care systems, promote its proper use through the development of technical guidelines and international standards in the field of herbal medicines and acupuncture, and act as a clearinghouse for the dissemination of information on traditional medicine. The program’s activities and accomplishments are outlined.
