Abstract

The Brazilian flora contains a large number of medicinal plants, involved in its tradition of empirical and scientific knowledge of herbal medicines. The aim of this work was to present Brazilian medicinal plants of traditional use and to relate their properties and immunomodulatory activities. From the primitive to the most modern peoples, the use of medicinal plants is part of the culture of the Brazilian population. Many plants exist in the backyards of the houses and are consumed in teas daily. This study describes the most used and registered plants in the country over the past 20 years. Treatment of various diseases via improved immunity as a result of administration of Brazilian medicinal plants, composed of herbs, shrubs, and trees. Crop, ornamental, and non-economic plants are used daily as medicinal plants. Some plants are also toxic, but have double suitability at lower dosages, especially as deworming agents.
