Abstract

The topicality of the work is due to the increased interest of society in the visual image in everyday culture and its components, which are studied by representatives of various humanities. These studies confirm that in visual cultures, the importance of clothing is interpreted taking into account the traditions, customs and norms of behavior of a nation.
 The purpose of the article. The purpose of the research is to conduct a detailed scientific and practical substantiation of the peculiarities of traditions as a way of translating cultural codes in modern Ukrainian culture, and to analyze the semiotics of clothing to identify cultural codes of the sign system of clothing.
 The methodology. The study provides a comprehensive analysis of the peculiarities of traditions as a way of translating cultural codes in modern Ukrainian culture. Theoretical and methodological approaches are used for this, including description, analysis and synthesis; analytical modeling; comparative analysis; systematization, generalization.
 The results of the study showed that the cultural code of Ukraine is original and unique, with the identity of culture and literature of the peoples inhabiting the country. It is determined that tradition as a mean of socio-cultural communication is distinguished by such important features as selectivity for cultural material, stability and repeatability, effectiveness, ambiguity, authoritarianism. It is established that with the help of the cultural code and combining items of clothing and combining them into a certain set, you can form a message that is understandable to other carriers of a particular culture. The specific features of Ukrainian embroidery are analyzed, which are fatigue, that in the process of its creation the designer forms a very strong amulet. It is established that embroidered signs, images and symbols embody certain meanings: “viburnum” — a symbol of blood and immortality; “grapes” — a symbol of joy and beauty; “lily” — a symbol of maiden beauty and innocence; “oak” symbolizes development, life, strength and “hops” symbolize the exuberance of young life, love. It is established that ornament, color, embroidery, lace, constructive forms of folk clothing are reflected in the modern art of costume modeling.
 The scientific novelty is due to the solution of an important scientific task, which is to develop practical results on the features of traditions as a way of translating cultural codes in modern Ukrainian culture. A special cultural-comparative study of clothing semiotics was conducted.
 The practical significance. The results of the study are intended to serve for further research to explore new features of traditions as a way of translating cultural codes in modern Ukrainian culture, which will help to better understand the role of semiotic clothing codes as a response to cultural change. Based on the study, it can be concluded that traditions are the main way of translating cultural codes in modern Ukrainian culture.
