Abstract

This paper is focused on Mario de Andrade’s ideas about the importance of national historical and artistic heritage. We argue that the writer’s position is informed by an avant-gardist and revolutionary perspective. In this context, the value of tradition does not stand on its own, but insofar as it admits a contemporary and transformative use, both at aesthetic and political spheres.
