This article provides some preliminary findings from a major research project being undertaken at ODI, which is designed to shed light on the dynamics of ACP exports to the EC under Lomé and to identify both the ways in which the Conventions have facilitated trade and the reforms that could further the process. The study has been financed by the Leverhulme Trust and has also benefitted from the provision by the European Statistical Office of a substantial data base.
