Abstract

The economic transformation taking place among the Eastern European countries of Bulgaria, the Czech and Slovak Federated Republic (CSFR, formally Czechoslovakia), Hungary, Poland and Romania has enhanced the prospects for economic and trade relations between Japan and these countries. What is the potential value of such relationships? What will be the nature and scope of the relationships? Can economic and trade relations be the answer to some of the challenges facing Eastern Europe?
