Abstract

What determines the degree to which a person complies with tailored weight‐loss suggestions? Two studies examine the effectiveness of an interactive web‐based weight‐loss resource. The first study (n=1000) investigated the predictors of compliance, showing that nearly 60% of the variance in compliance can be determined by how effective and easy people rate the tip before beginning the program. The second study (n=200) investigates the resulting link between individual ratings of the tip effectiveness and the resulting impact compliance and weight loss. Implications for promoting greater compliance – in person and on the web – are then outlined.Grant Funding Source: none
