Tracheo-oesophageal fistula in siblings

Abstract

The cause of oesophageal atresia and tracheo-oesopageal fistula is unknown. Reports of familial incidence are few but include identical twins both affected, apparently identical twins with only one affected, affected siblings with similar or dissimilar pathology, parent and child affected. This paper reports two siblings, one whom died of undetected tracheo-oesophageal fistula without atresia and one who survived oesophageal atresia and distal tracheo-oesophageal fistula.
