Abstract

Abstract Tracer points are commonly made in conical form with a spherical tip for contacting the surface. Through measurement of surfaces with diamond points of various tip radius, it is shown that even relatively large radii may be used. The 0.0005-in-radius point commonly used in averaging instruments is wholly adequate for surfaces tested.
