Abstract

Trace element distribution and variation about some igneous contacts have been studied by use of the emission spectrograph. Major element variations for the same samples were reported by Dennen (1949). The data indicate that some components have been transferred from the younger system into the older system, but only within a few centimeters of the contact. Geochemical culminations and/or depressions for the various cations can be related to zones of contrasting mineralogy which probably developed during adjustment to local equilibrium. The geochemical affinity of Ni for Fe and Co for Mg, and the diadochy of Zr and Ti in basic rocks, are demonstrated. Mn and Cu show some anomalous behavior in the megasystem.
