Trace element concentration in hair of the Bangladeshi population

Abstract

Trace element concentrations in hair of an adult population in Bangladesh have been measured. The sample group was formed of 102 subjects randomly selected from a working community of about five hundred adults. All the hair samples were analyzed by the external beam PIXE method. In this analysis, 2-MeV proton beams with ≈30 nA intensity were used for the irradiation of targets prepared as 1-mm thick pellets. The concentration of twelve elements has been determined by comparison with a calibration obtained from the present study have been compared with the values recently reported in literatures.
