Abstract

AbstractTrabeculectomy still remains the gold standard in glaucoma surgery, being the only operation that can potentially lead to single digit IOP control. Indications for trabeculectomy have not changed throughout the years in glaucoma management and even with the new EGS guidelines, trabeculectomy still represents what is called “traditional glaucoma surgery”. With the evolution of MIGS (Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery) there has been a broad debate between the use of trabecvulectomy and the gradual replacement by MIGS. In this presentation the indication of trabeculectomy and MIGS will be explained, with specific emphasis on how MIGS complement trabeculectomy and fill the gap between drops and traditional incisional glaucoma surgery. Clinical paradigms will also be presented.
