Abstract

Ocular toxoplasmosis is a frequent disease since it represents the first infectious etiology of the posterior segment of the eye. Its severity is moderate in the majority of patients, but it remains significant in other cases with an engaged visual prognosis. The diagnosis of ocular toxoplasmosis is essentially based on the demonstration of the local synthesis of antibodies in the aqueous humor. This is not always obvious in Algeria, because the aqueous humor samples taken by ophthalmologists are not done systematically. For example, during the period from January 2008 to December 2016, 504 patients had suspected ocular toxoplasmosis and only 28 samples of aqueous humor were sent to us for this diagnosis. This is carried out by Western blot and by PCR in our laboratory. Thus, during the afore mentioned period, two cases of ocular toxoplasmosis were diagnosed with certainty.
