Abstract

What is the effect on the external eye of hydrogen peroxide 3%? 10%? 20%? The answers are on pages 559 and 560 of this book. What are the ocular side effects of diazepam (Valium) and chlordiazepoxide (Librium)? The answers are to be found respectively on pages 257 and 358. Not only these but about 4,000 other compounds, ranging from 2,4-D to zoxazolamine, are listed in the main body of this now standard work. Vick's Vapo Rub, Mienie-mienie Indian bead, hair spray, and golf ball contents are a few of the common or exotic substances conveniently indexed under their ordinary names. The only compound that I was unable to locate was sodium metasilicate, a strong alkali cleaner for white rubber sidewalls, delivered from aerosol cans. Possibly no injuries from this substance have been reported as yet. This second edition more than doubles the number of compounds listed in the first edition.
