Abstract

Background and Aims: Atherosclerosis is a non-resolving inflammatory condition that underlies major cardiovascular diseases. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is a natural omega 3 fatty acid component of algae oil that acts as a precursor of several anti-inflammatory compounds. Our research group has previously developed a lipid-core nanocapsule with DHA constituting the nucleus and anti-PECAM-1 on its surface, in order to target the inflamed endothelium. However, toxicity must be evaluated before the nanocapsules are in vivo applied.
