Abstract

Recent polls suggest the 2002 (Maryland) gubernatorial race between Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and Robert Ehrlich is extremely close. On issues important to many minority voters, however, the candidates are miles apart.For example, both candidates embrace the notion of affirmative action, but they disagree on its coverage. Townsend supports both economic·based and race-based programs while Ehrlich favors only economic·based efforts.
