Abstract
The successful prohibition of the crime of kidnapping through the law is an ongoing battle for governments across the globe. This study examined the global menace of kidnapping vis-a-vis its history world over, the forms and types; as well as the rationale behind the crime. It then settled down to critically appraise the provisions of the kidnapping prohibition laws of Bayelsa and Oyo States of Nigeria. The study recommended amongst others that the existing laws on kidnapping be amended as necessary; that the punishment for kidnapping and accompanying crimes be made commensurate to respective offences and that government should aggressively enforce the laws towards the prohibition of kidnapping.
