Abstract

A synthetic route from m-methoxyphenol to the tetracycles (cis-13,14)-3-methoxy-6,11-dioxa-9β,13ζ14ζ-estra-1,3,5(10)-triene (7; X = H2) and (cis-13,14)-3-methoxy-6,11-dioxa-9/β,13ζ,l4ζ-estra-1,3,5(10)-trien-12-one (11) is described in which all the skeletal carbon atoms except the oneat position 7 are joined together in the first step.
