Abstract

The cost- and energy-efficient production of high-performance lithium-ion battery cells on a giga-scale, with minimal waste, is essential for further energy transition. The articles in this Special Issue present new and in-depth process knowledge, process innovations and digital solutions along the process chain from dry powder mixing to electrode production, cell assembly and formation. The results, achieved within the German ProZell cluster and the DaLion4.0 research project, provide a scientific backbone for establishing a sustainable and competitive battery cell manufacturing industry. More details can be found in the Guest Editorial 2300265, Arno Kwade, Laura Jess, and Fabienne Huttner.
