Abstract

This study analyses the responses obtained from a survey conducted among three thousand four hundred and ninety seven students of a South African institution of higher learning. The interviews reflected in the survey questionnaire are sought to have an insight into the usage of smart phones, tablets and other electronic devices by students for teaching and learning purposes. Results obtained showed 64.1% of University students consulted in this survey perceived the use of smart devices to be from very important to absolutely essential, which may compel institutions of higher learning to think of fresh interventions pertaining to the use of smart devices for effective teaching and learning.
