Abstract

With the rapid proliferation of wireless services into automotive domain, it is of paramount importance to understand how reliably data can be sent through a custom wireless local area network (WLAN). Thanks to a large body of research, WLAN throughput under saturated and non-saturated traffic condition has been well understood. In this paper, we preset the performance model for ad hoc multimedia service framework, called mCar, based on IEEE 802.11. _With help of application prototype, we show that in an ad hoc multimedia WLAN with multi-packet reception (MPR) capability, saturation throughput scales superlinearly with the MPR capability of the network.
