Abstract
Tomorrow's products and services will become more intelligent, more connected and more autonomous. New development paradigms such as Advanced Systems Engineering are being implemented to deal with the increasing complexity of offerings and their development. At the same time, demographic change is resulting in a shortage of skilled workers in development departments. Competence and knowledge management is becoming a significant key factor. One way of ensuring competences and making organizational structures more flexible are role models. Role models include groups of role profiles specific to the company with clear tasks and competences as well as associated responsibilities and authorities. The objective of this paper is the analysis of the term role model in Advanced Systems Engineering. The challenges and advantages for companies should be worked out.
