Abstract
Expert systems have been extensively used in education and training to represent or reason about subject matter, students or trainees, teaching or training strategies. The Pascal Debugging Aid (PDA) is an expert system designed to assist students while debugging Pascal programs. Here we describe the development process for PDA, identify its shortcomings as a tutoring system and suggest how PDA can be endowed with intelligent tutoring abilities.
