Abstract

The analysis of prehistoric European culture has turned on a consideration of artefact morphology. An alternative approach is to view successive settlements as a series of cultural ecological adaptations, in which details of artefact morphology have only limited relevance. This paper presents a method for reconstructing aspects of prehistoric economies through the analysis of faunal remains, and subsequently, in conjunction with floral and artefactual evidence, outlines economic change in the Alpine Foreland during the sub-boreal period.
