Abstract

Wireless power transfer (WPT) has been a prominent study area in recent years. The computer simulation-based coil design method is preferred over the traditional approach for parameter calculation. In computer simulation, the spatial distributions of the model parameters are obtained, whereas the theoretical method only provides the lumped parameters. Moreover, the theoretical calculation approach has limitations when the coil's shape and structure are complicated or have not been created. This paper describes a detailed procedure of modelling and simulation of WPT-coil assembly design for maximum efficiency search. In this study, finite element method (FEM) based analysis has been conducted in ANSYS for different WPT-coils geometries, and the model parameters are estimated to analyse the WPT-based wireless charging system for electric vehicles using Matlab Simulink software. The WPT-based charging system has also been studied without and with ferrite shielding. The coil's properties were estimated and analysed to ensure efficient magnetic coupling and maximum power transfer.
