Abstract

Smart Power Grid is extremely critical cyber physical system, which combines the physical resources of a power generation infrastructure and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, which act as cyber layer. SCADA system is responsible for real time monitoring and control of power grid and power delivery network. Cyber layer of smart power grid makes it much smarter and efficient compared to traditional power grid. However, cyber layer also makes it vulnerable against different cyber-attacks because this layer transforms power grid into an open network system. In this paper, we present a co-simulation environment for smart power grid using OMNeT++ and openDSS, which integrates network simulator and power generation simulator as well as attack scenarios that are developed on network simulator. Different types of attacks are performed on cyber layer of the developed simulation framework and behavior of overall simulated environment of smart power grid is analyzed during these attacks. Moreover, in this paper, we can see smart power grid vulnerable behavior during cyber attacks.
