Abstract
This article explores the intrapsychic influences of traditional Hindu patterns of caregiving on the formation of the inner object world, with emphasis on the notion of object constancy. The essay is the first of a three-part series that pursues a culture-based approach to reformulating post-Freudian psychoanalysis in Hindu settings.
