Abstract

Next-generation audio (NGA) will bring a greater sense of reality to the media experience. It will also allow a range of audio personalization options to the user and ensure that audio production elements can be adapted to the range of NGA coding formats. The purpose of this article is to explain the progress that has been made since the specifications of various elements of practical systems were agreed. They include the approach that would allow a common production arrangement to be used to serve the alternative encoding formats and the trials that have taken place with the alternative formats.
