Abstract

Some of the most innovative, flexible, and creative ESL and literacy materials seem to emerge from Canada. Towards Participation is no exception. As the title suggests, this short, concise guidebook has a participatory perspective on citizenship. That is, citizenship is viewed as a process where people shape and challenge their roles as citizens rather than passively assimilating into the status quo. This participatory perspective is reflected in the kind of lesson planning encouraged by the authors.
