Abstract

Chapter 7 introduces some interesting reflections about the collections that could be used in opening the Arsenal Museum, in addition to what has already been outlined by various projects. This would make it possible to strengthen the narrative structure of the Arsenal, recovering historical materials already present but not yet (or no longer) presented by city museums currently. Assuming that a large part of the display will be delivered via media, and recognizing a project like this does not need to settle for what has been considered to date, the catalogue of objects should evoke historical themes, while examining the consistency of existing public and private collections. This will allow identification of core materials for exhibitions, using narratives to illustrate the political, maritime, architectural and urban evolution of the City of Venice. The strong thematic collections already available will suggest ways to pinpoint segments of a complex journey. Some important examples are provided.
