Abstract

AbstractThis article aims at exploring various pedestrian movement patterns and their interactions in open scenic areas. Spatial influence from road networks is also considered by using Space syntax. The results caught three types of movement patterns and two significant interactions. Spatial influence has a strong connection to pedestrians, but differs due to pedestrian type. Prediction models based on random forest were built and showed better performance for resident pedestrians. The results can enhance the walking comforts of tourists and residents in open scenic areas, and give practical suggestions for scenic management, attraction planning and internal road improvement.
