Abstract

Abstract The study presented in this chapter assesses the existing knowledge on tourism development in Greenland and identifies a range of research needs and criteria to help guide future tourism research and development in the country. In particular, the study reviews existing knowledge of the links between tourism, natural resources and local communities in Greenland. This includes identifying barriers and opportunities for tourism in contributing to creating a platform for conservation of natural resources and to sustainable development of Greenlandic society. In addition, the study suggests criteria to guide the Danish Environmental Support to the Arctic to prioritize future research projects related to tourism.
