Abstract
Abstract The High Tatras mountain range separates Poland and Slovakia. Planning for tourism in this mountain area was mainly undertaken between the late 1940s and the 1970s and demonstrates an exceptional level of sophistication and quality. The planning goals included: recreation and tourist travel, essentially for a domestic audience; environmental protection of high-altitude regions, and their study; and therapeutic treatment. This case study describes the planning principles behind these objectives and how these goals were achieved.
