Abstract

ABSTRACT The paper examines the potential of tourism education to encourage tourism industry recognition of its ability to contribute to a more harmonious and peaceful world. There is reference to the United Nations Global Code of Ethics for Tourism as a resource available to the educator. It is submitted that tourism education provides opportunities for conscientization (awareness and a willingness to be involved) of the tourism industry and there are suggestions on how this can be done through the incorporation of relevant considerations into textbooks, courses, and tutorial situations.
