Abstract
Background: The tourism climate index(TCI) Mieczkowski (1985), is a useful tool that is used today to meet the climatic conditions in various tourist destinations, where seven climate variables come together to get the index. Objectives : Assess the TCI as a tool for preventing climate related diseases Methods: It study was conducted in Puerto Vallarta Jalisco Mexico, and were assessed 10 years (2002-2012), for which variables were obtained as: average and maximum temperature, relative and minimum humidity, wind speed, precipitation and daylight hours. In addition to characterizing the months with the highest number of dengue cases. Results: The months that were more favorable to visit Puerto Vallarta were: November, December, January and February. Unlike June, July, August, September who were disadvantaged mainly by rain, some of this precipitation caused by tropical cyclones, these months coincide with the highest number of dengue cases. Conclusions: The TCI is a useful tool for the prevention of which there is a greater amount of weather-related diseases.
